Abstract This is an oral history assignment based upon an evaluation on the comparison between the education system back then as compared to modern times now. An how this education structure in Trinidad and Tobago have led to the benefit a well-respected officer of the Trinidad and Tobago police service (TTPS) and a member of the Mts Association. It changed the common perception of millions of non-dancers that dancing is in fact an art form deserving respect. In this paper, will be discussing the film itself, exploring the movement genres displayed, and I will conclude by deconstructing the main ideas of the film. In the film’s opening scene, it begins with a glimpse into two different worlds of culture. The camera shifts back and forth between high society ballet and urban competitive street dancing. The two groups were beginning their performance in the background as the introductory music played. The ballet angers’ movements were overtly formal, proper and elegant, while the hip- hop dancers more rugged, abrasive, and explosive. A stark contrast is presented between the classical dances of past eras and the innovation and inspiration of modern conception. However, despite their differences, both groups displayed cohesion, uniformity and were distinctly polished in their respective trades. Played by Changing Datum, Tyler Gage is a rebellious teenage boy who lives in a foster home in one of Baltimore’s toughest neighborhoods. All of his peers come from broken homes where making ends meet takes priority over pursuing dreams. He struggles to stay out of trouble and has not always succeeded. He and his friends make money by stealing cars and hustling neighborhood thugs on outdoor basketball courts. It is in this setting where he establishes himself as a highly talented break dancer. One night after a confrontation at a neighborhood party, they break into a nearby school to blow off steam and vandalize the theaters stage. Tyler alone is caught by the security guard on duty and he is sentenced to two hundred hours Of community service. His service entails working as the janitor Of this prestigious art school. The school Tyler and his friends broke into just appended to be one for the talented and gifted, the Maryland School of the Arts. Many of the students who attended the school came from privileged backgrounds, which only heightened the disparity between Tyler and the student body. Although the means in which Tyler arrived on campus were not favorable, his misfortune would serve to create an introduction to the leading lady and his future dance partner. Nora Clark, played by Jean Dean, lives in a privileged neighborhood and is an aspiring ballerina at the school. There, she is the institution’s most dedicated creative dance student and is hard at work on her senior project. Norm’s mom does not encourage her pursuit of dance, so Nora promises her mother that if she does not land with a dance company she will apply to a University. When we look at Norm’s style of dance, there is neither Improvisation nor retrieve movement. She’s a participant that has a background in dance technique, and has advanced experience because of the dance school she attends. So her style would not necessarily match up with Improvisation Movement for the reason of, while improving being an advanced dancer with a lot of technical training she will fall back on what she knows rather than move freely and organically. Likewise you also can’t say it’s exactly a creative movement because Ballet, her style of dance contradicts it. Creative movement is a dance genre that does not necessarily require the participants o have a background in dance technique; it also focuses on self-expression and self-exploration. Nonetheless Ballet requires a dancer to put in the work necessary and to do so you will need to have a background in dance techniques, also the choreographer directs everything in Ballet leaving participant with no real self- expression or self-exploration. It was this brilliant infusion of two opposing styles that laid the groundwork for dance to be utilized as a vehicle fo r overcoming divisive societal obstacles. Tyler is from the bad end of Baltimore, and Nora the expensively stylish part. The way they acted, their speech, and the way they dressed was different from one another. This was all enhanced by the difference in their style of dancing hip hop and ballet. Dance was the method use to portrayed falling in love process of a couple from different sides of the tracks. After spying Teller’s dance display outside the school, although Nora pretends to frown upon his goofball ways, she secretly likes his style of dance. She began to build up interest in Tyler. It was at this peek she decided to then settle for him as the substitution rehearsal partner, upon the injury of her former partner. Dance did not only draw Nora closer to Tyler, but vice versa as well. He was greatly transformed mentally and physically. Before their acquaintance, Tyler was stealing cars, playing neighborhood basketball games, and a straight jerk to his siblings. Form what is consequent from their acquaintance is that because of the boundary breaking strength of dance, Tyler was able fall in love with Nora, Which altered his whole character. He finally abandoned stealing cars and hustling basketball games, and began to be an older brother to his siblings, because of his dedication to Norm’s dance reference. The film ‘Step Up’ allowed the general public to gain a greater understanding of modern dance, address societal movements and display performance techniques. Different forms of dance were used in the film to portray two lifestyles, which illustrated deeper social issues. Dance was also used to unite the two different lifestyles. Marketers should therefore seek ways to reduce the delivery time to consumers to attract more store-oriented consumers. 4 The study of the effects of intrinsic and extrinsic motivations also resulted evidence contrary to previous assumptions that online shopping was goal oriented. Intrinsic motivations were found to be the primary motivations for online shopping while extrinsic motivations were not major. 24 This was true for models explaining online shopping intensity and the decision on whether to shop online or not. While perceived usefulness was not a primary reason f or users to shop online, perceived ease of use was directly related to the uptake of IT solutions and intrinsic motivation. 16 Worries over the users’ network security and uncertainty about online sales process were also acted as obstacles to online shopping. Online retailers must therefore aim to repre sent their products in such a way that low price will not be associated with low sacrifice rather low quality. They should balance between information loads to increase their products exposure. They can do this by accurate market targeting using recent technology. 8 Incentive Online retailers should display their products in a way that encourages role enactment motivation. The web sites should consequently evoke utilitarian perceptions. Traders should exploit the differences between adolescents and adults’ shopping motivation to make sales. 23 Adolescents shopping motivations are strongly related to shopping perceptions except for the economic utility motivation. There is a positive relationship between hedonic perception and social interaction and emotional utility and another positive relationship between utilitarian perception and motivations of sensory stimulation, role enactment, and choice optimization. 9 Cultural Match Cultural Match influences the critical mass of eM arketplaces according to previous research as noted in Literature Review. 19 Taking into consideration the culture of different audiences in drafting a product encourage them to carry out purchases in the eMarketplace. Culture refers to the way of living, values, and beliefs of a certain group of people. Achieving critical mass in eMarketplaces requires that producers of online goods and activity focus on this critical factor. 2 Degree of Regulation Degree of regulation affects the critical mass of eMarketplaces according to previous research. Regulation brings sanity in the eMarketplace and aids in creating order hence leading to a critical mass. 17 However, too much regulation may forestall creation of critical mass. It is imperative for the governments to understand the level, which may lead to lack of innovation and strive to work with an optimum level of regulation. This way achievement of critical mass is made easier and fostered. 1 Results and Findings The above analysis indi cates that achievement of critical mass of eMarketplaces is a joint effort between different stakeholders. 20 However, the biggest stakeholder is government. The following are some of the areas that governments contribute towards in growth of eMarketplaces. The first is infrastructure. The internet has been growing at an almost steady rate in these six regions over the last couple of years as indicated in the figure below. In achieving critical mass for eMarketplaces, the six major factors indicated above were considered. The following table indicates each regions performance on those factors. When employed correctly, these features could see an increase in the number of buyers on the eMarketplace. The resultant model is of regression nature. Conclusion and Future Works Research findings show that when eMarketers employ these factors in the right way, people will be attracted to the site thus creating a critical mass that will translate into sales. Understanding the psychology of the buyers is also a crucial component in increasing online purchasing since it helps in guiding the sellers on how to package their products to best suit the buyers. It is also notable that incorporating cultural match and incentives could help in attracting the buyers since they will have a sense of belonging in relation to the eMarketplace and as such resort to online purchasing. 17 The researcher, however , suggest that further studies be carried out to help dictate the appropriate degree of regulation that should be employed to allow the buyers get full satisfaction with the services provided as well as make the seller not feel held back in information delivery. In addition, studies should be carried out on how to improve cultural balance in the advertising of products so that no market is left out in the selling of online goods. Aristotle on Virtue essays Aristotle defines virtue as acquiring excellence through the fulfillment of a particular function. Stating that all people are born with the potential to be virtuous yet they must act accordingly through their function. Any function good and well must possess a telos or end objective which a soul is in search of, and it is through the activity of the soul that a function may achieve its telos. Aristotle sees anything that moves as having a soul, consisting of nutrition, locomotion, perception, and rationality. However only the human soul is able to reason and rationalize leading to human excellence, eudemonia, and ultimately happiness. Virtue to Aristotle is not as much about knowledge as it is about the social activity of being good and moral to people. To Aristotle the sole act of listening does not make one virtuous, yet action towards the good does. However there are no definitive rules to follow in being virtuous considering practical circumstances vary so much. Aristotle believes moral virtue is to be learned through habit and practice, as a balance of two vices each deficient and excessive in their means of feeling, choosing, and acting well. Thus virtue comes from the rational part of our soul managing and controlling the irrational appetitive part as we deal with the emotions that arise in our soul when confronted with a situation. These moral virtues however are states of ones character as a disposition rather than a feeling or emotion, as feelings and emotions are not subject to praise or blame the way virtues and vices are. The moral excesses include recklessness, self indulgence, extravagance, vanity, and irrationality, which are faced with opposing deficiencies cowardice, insensibility, cheapness, humility, and apathy respectively. A balance of these excesses and deficiencies leads to one being virtuous and acquiring honor. In doing so one must avoid the extreme which is farther from the mean, as well as...
